Kuwait considers tightening driving license requirements for foreigners

 The Kuwaiti Interior Ministry has indicated that Kuwaiti traffic authorities will revoke old driving licenses and issue new cards.

According to the Kuwaiti magazine Al-Rai, some foreigners have obtained driving licenses through forgery and fraud.Most foreigners have moved from one company to another, from one company to another, and are not meeting the new employer's requirements for a driver's license.


Many foreigners left Kuwait and did not return, their stay ended but they are license holders. Foreigners in this category will also have their driving licenses confiscated.

Kuwaiti officials say the traffic committee will face several problems in issuing new licenses. Seizing and changing more than 3 million licenses is not an easy task.

According to an estimate, out of 3 million licenses confiscated, about 1 million are to be replaced by new licenses. The driving licenses of 2.5 million foreigners in Kuwait will be confiscated.

Kuwaiti officials say another decision has been made with the operation to confiscate and change the licenses to tighten the conditions for issuing driving licenses to foreigners in the future to control traffic congestion in the country.
