New Delhi: There have been more than a dozen incidents of showing black flags and throwing mud at a convoy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates in the western Indian state of UP.
According to The Indian Express, the BJP candidates were campaigning for the February 10 and 14 elections.
Maninder Pal Singh, a BJP candidate from Sewalkhas, was attacked on the evening of January 24 in a village called Chhor.
"I have not lodged any complaint even though seven cars following me have been damaged by the rocks," he told reporters.
The BJP leader further said that these are our people, I forgave them but such incidents should not happen to those who seek votes in a democracy.
"We are identifying the protesters through available video footage and will take action against them," police said.
It should be noted that the BJP had carried out a clean sweep in Western UP in the 2017 elections but now the ruling party is facing strong opposition due to controversial laws.
In addition, a few days ago, BJP leader Vikram Sen was surrounded by a mob of farmers in Muzaffarnagar, chanting anti-party slogans and saying, "You have come five years later."
In the same constituency a few days ago, Vikram Saini faced similar opposition and when asked, he said that this is not a trivial matter, such incidents often happen during the election campaign.
