Pay 80 million to Canadian victims of plane crash in Iran

A Canadian court has paid  83.94 million, including interest, to the families of six people killed in a Ukrainian International Airlines passenger plane crash by Iranian Revolutionary Guards two years ago.

It should be noted that Iran shot down a plane in January 2020 in which all 176 people on board were killed. They included 55 Canadian citizens and 30 permanent residents.According to Reuters, the lawyer for the families of the six people who have been paid by a court in the Canadian province of Ontario, Mark Arnold, said in a statement issued on Monday that "the people aboard Flight 752 Were lovely

He had filed a lawsuit against Iran and other officials who he said were responsible for the attack.

The lawyer said his team would try to seize Iranian assets in Canada and other countries.

Mark Arnold added that there were Iranian oil tankers in other countries and that his team would seize as much as possible so that the families of those killed could be paid.

The decision was made by Justice Edward Bellobaba of the Ontario Supreme Court on December 31, which was announced by Mark Arnold on Monday.

The case was registered by Shaheen Moghadam, Mehrzad Zari and Ali Gorej.

The Canadian broadcaster CBC said some other plaintiffs had withheld their names for fear of retaliation from Iran.

A special Canadian forensic team produced a report in mid-2021 accusing Iran of incompetence and negligence in the crash of a Ukrainian passenger plane.

Iran has criticized the report, calling it "extremely political."

According to the report, Flight 752 of the Ukrainian plane was not shot down as planned but this does not absolve the Iranian officials of their responsibility.

Iran has admitted to shooting down the plane, which was flying from Tehran in January 2020, calling it a "catastrophic mistake" by forces because it was on high alert for a confrontation with the United States.

At the time, Iran was at risk of possible attacks because it fired missiles at US military bases in Iraq.

The missiles were fired because of the death of Qasim Soleimani, Iran's most powerful military commander, in a US missile strike.
