KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's female minister has advised husbands to beat up disobedient wives.
Malaysia's Minister for Social and Private Affairs, Zila Muhammad Yousuf, in a statement issued on social media, advised husbands to beat up wives who do not agree, and said that wives who do not agree to talk should be beaten.
He further said that if the wives obey even after persuasion and do not change their attitude, then leave them for the first 3 days and if the wives still do not stop their stubbornness then Toshhoras can raise his hand.
The Home Minister is facing criticism from various quarters, including women's rights organizations, following his statement. Women's groups say such a statement is tantamount to supporting domestic violence in a country like Indonesia where the rate of domestic violence is high.
