Taliban detains two foreign journalists, seeks release, says UNHCR

KABUL (UPI) - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says the Taliban have detained two foreign journalists and are working to secure their release. The UNHCR said in a tweet that the arrested journalists were working with them to take pictures of the displaced.

According to reports, a foreign journalist, including Andrew North, a former BBC correspondent, was arrested five days ago, but the UNHCR has confirmed the arrest. Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the government of the Islamic Emirate, said in a reply to a question sent to NNI about the arrest that they were gathering information in this regard and so far no information was available about them. Andrew North is said to have visited Afghanistan several times since the Taliban took control of Kabul.
