Free accommodation for more than 8,000 Burmese in Makkah

Dr. Amjad Maghribi, a spokesman for the Mecca Mukarramah Reform Program, said that the resettlement of more than 8,000 members of the Burmese community living in Qawz al-Nakasa had been legalized. They were living in Al-Nakasa in violation of residence and employment laws.

In an interview with Al-Akhbariya's popular program Nashrat Al-Nahar, Maghrebi said that the Saudi authorities have solved the problems of illegal immigrants in Burma on humanitarian grounds.

Earlier, thousands of Burmese were granted free accommodation. They were provided with jobs and accommodation.

The Governor of Makkah, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, implemented a humanitarian scheme in this regard under his supervision, which was approved by the top leadership.

Maghribi added that the buildings in Al-Nakasa neighborhood have been evacuated and demolished. The remaining buildings will be demolished after Eid-ul-Fitr. During this time the problems of the Burmese living there were thoroughly examined.

Relevant committees of field teams of the Ministry of Manpower and other agencies prepared lists of Saudi families living in Al-Nakasa neighborhood. Flats were provided to the citizens involved in the social welfare program and humanitarian accommodation was also provided to others.
