Washington - The United States imposed new sanctions on the Iranian Revolutionary Guards after the Houthi missile strikes on the installations of Erbil (Saudi Aramco) in Iraq on March 13 and Saudi Aramco on March 25.
According to Al Arabiya, Washington announced the ban at a time when US President Joe Biden's administration could remove the Revolutionary Guards from the US blacklist of foreign terrorist organizations.
According to the United States, sanctions were imposed on Iranian citizen Mohammad Ali Husseini and his "network of companies" involved in purchasing materials for the IRGC's ballistic missile program.
Brian Nelson, a counterterrorism and financial intelligence official, said the operation was aimed at preventing Iran from using sophisticated ballistic missiles. The United States and Iran are currently in indirect talks in Vienna to reactivate the 2015 nuclear deal.
Democrats say sanctions have halted Iran's nuclear program in exchange for access to billions of dollars in relief. Former President Donald Trump withdrew from the agreement in 2018.
