A British man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Bangladeshi woman, Yasmeen Begum. A mother of two was killed indoors while she was alone and her children were at school.
According to Arab News, the London Metropolitan Police has released a report stating that a 40-year-old suspect has been arrested from Stratford area of East London on Sunday.
Earlier, police were called to the Bethnal Green area of east London on Thursday afternoon by staff dropping off children from school where the murder took place.
School staff called police, expressing concern.
Police arrived at the scene and found the woman dead, who had been brutally stabbed several times.
The woman was critically injured and died on the spot.
The post-mortem report stated that the cause of death of Yasmeen Begum was multiple severe injuries caused by a sharp instrument.
"We are aware that Begum's family and friends are in deep distress and in a difficult situation," said Lawrence Smith, chief inspector of the investigative staff.
"After this tragic incident, we want to assure the family of Yasmeen Begum that the investigation is being carried out 24 hours a day and we are with them for what they deserve," the inspector said.
The inspector of the investigation team said that the murder of the woman was a heartbreaking tragedy. All women living here have the right to be safe, whether at home or in public, day or night, anywhere and at all times. We are making every effort to find the real culprit of the murder.
Dealing with any form of violence against women is one of the top priorities of the Metropolitan Police. Police officers along with forensic experts are present at the scene.
"We will continue door-to-door inquiries and deploy additional police in the area to protect locals," he added.
Residents of the area are urged to contact the court to provide any witnesses or information about the killings.
