UN passes resolution against Russia

New York: The UN General Assembly passed a resolution against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The emergency session of the UN General Assembly was convened for the first time in 39 years after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In the General Assembly, 141 out of 193 members of the UN voted against the Russian invasion. 35 countries, including Pakistan, India and Iran, abstained.

Russia, Syria, North Korea and Belarus are among the five countries opposed to the resolution.

The resolution called for an immediate ceasefire with Russia and the withdrawal of troops from Ukraine.

General Assembly resolutions do not have to be implemented, but they have political significance.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. The United States, Britain and Europe have imposed financial sanctions on Russia since the attack.
