Tel Aviv: An unidentified man opened fire on passersby in the Israeli city of Banai Barak, killing five people.
According to Israeli media, police officials have expressed concern that the attacker had entered Israeli territory from the West Bank. Police also say the attacker managed to enter the West Bank and Israeli border due to poor security.
Police say the predominant assumption is that the attacker is still in Banai Barak. Police spokesman Eli Levy said there was a strong possibility that the attacker had an accomplice, but officers were searching vehicles and homes at the scene.
It should be noted that before the death of 5 people tonight, two people were killed in firing in Hadira on Sunday and four people were killed in firing in Beersheba last Tuesday. The number of Israelis killed by unidentified gunmen in one week is the highest since 2006 when a suicide bus bombing in Tel Aviv killed 11 Israelis.
