US President Joe Biden has warned his Chinese counterpart that backing Russia on military action in Ukraine would have consequences.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Joe Biden held a two-hour video link.
On the occasion, US President Joe Biden said that like Russia, the US could also impose sanctions on China.
The Chinese president said that the United States and NATO should hold talks with Russia to understand the real cause of the crisis in Ukraine.
He also said that sanctions on Russia would cause irreparable damage to the world economy and that the Cold War mentality should be abandoned.
