Discover a new link between depression and heart disease

Port of Spain: We know that depression and frustration can increase the risk of heart disease, but it has also been shown that heart disease can push a patient into depression and depression.

According to a new research survey, if elderly people are at risk of heart disease, they are more likely to suffer from depression. This is because behind these days there are similar physical conditions including internal irritation (inflammation) and other biomarkers.

The bottom line is that depression can be prevented by improving heart health. According to a report published in PLOS One on April 13, Sandra Martin, a professor at the University of Granada in Spain, and her colleagues have conducted a thorough study in this regard, which has revealed a new link between heart disease and depression.

Experts have previously reported that both heart disease and depression increase oxidative stress along with internal irritation (inflammation). We already know that people with depression have a higher rate of heart disease. But the opposite is true: depression from heart disease has never been seen before.

In this regard, scientists have taken 6 years of data obtained from several centers. It examined the effects of the Mediterranean diet on men and women aged 55 to 75 years. The women ranged in age from 60 to 75 and were all overweight and obese. Of these, 6545 people did not have any heart disease at the beginning. But as a lifestyle among patients, they were divided into low, medium and high risk of heart disease. The condition of depression in them was found in the questionnaire and it was reviewed every two years.

At the end of the survey, it was found that women and men who had a higher risk of heart disease had a higher risk of developing depression. However, all of them did say that the Mediterranean diet also reduced their risk of heart disease and depression.

Research has shown that women, especially those with heart disease, are more likely to suffer from depression.
