New Delhi: Muslims in the Indian capital are under increasing pressure to close their meat shops for 10 days on the eve of Hindu festivals.
According to Indian media, Muslims are being forced to close their beef shops at the beginning of the popular Hindu festival of 10 days, known as Dargah Mai Ki Puja.
The mayors of south and west New Delhi have suggested that the number of visitors to the temple increases during the 10 days of the festival.
According to the mayors, this could provoke the sentiments of the Hindu community and raise the issue of law and order, so Muslims should keep shops closed during these 10 days.
The heads of municipal bodies also alleged that instead of disposing of cow dung, it was thrown on the road which was eaten by dogs and spread dirt.
Even before this, the workers of Modi's party have started closing down the meat shops, which has spread panic in the area.
