Karachi: India again started dreaming of taking over the ICC when either Saroganguli or J Shah will be fielded for the chairmanship.
Greg Berkeley, the current chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), is due to end his two-year term in November this year. Keep
A native of New Zealand, Berkeley is a well-known Auckland commercial lawyer, a company director and a board member of a number of New Zealand and Australian companies.
Although the Cricket Council's annual meeting is scheduled for July, Berkeley will continue its work until the scheduled T20 World Cup in Australia.
The BCCI wishes to have its own servant at the top seat in the ICC on the occasion of the scheduled World Cup in their country next year, as was the case with ICC Chairman Sharad Pawar on the occasion of the 2011 World Cup. ۔
The Indian candidate may face opposition from the Pakistan Cricket Board in the election of the ICC chairman, but his chances of success are high.
Sources said it was too early to say whether Ganguly would be the next ICC chairman. It may be recalled that according to the constitution, any current or former board member will be eligible to contest the election of chairman but the condition is that he has attended at least one board meeting. J Shah has been nominated by the BCCI as Ganguly's alternate director.
The ICC Board consists of 17 directors, including 12 full members, 3 associate representatives, a chairman from Berkeley, a chief executive Jeff Allardyce and an impartial female director Indira Nooyi. The chief executive does not have the right to vote.
