World food prices hit record highs, UN says

PARIS: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has revealed that the war between Russia and Ukraine has pushed global food prices to their highest levels.

According to the World News Agency, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has warned that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has hit major grain and vegetable oil markets, leading to fears of a global food crisis.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) added that global food prices rose 12.6 percent in March compared to February, compared to an annual increase of 27.7 percent from last year to February this year.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has warned that food shortages could hit poorer countries, especially Africa and the Middle East.

The UN agency added that global sanctions imposed on Russia over the February 24 attack on Ukraine had disrupted the flow of grain exports, which could lead to a global hunger crisis.

It should be noted that Russia and Ukraine are among the major grain producing countries and these two countries have a large share in the export of many important commodities such as wheat, vegetable oil and maize worldwide.
