New Delhi: A Hindu professor of Delhi University has been arrested for allegedly finding a Hindu religious symbol in a mosque in the Indian city of Varanasi.
According to Indian media, Ratan Lal, a professor of Hindu College, Delhi University, was arrested on charges of insulting the religious sentiments of Hindus.
Professor Ratan Lal had said in a social media post that a religious symbol of Hindus, Shivling, was allegedly found in the ablution room of Gyan Vapi Mosque in Varanasi. The matter is being complicated.
"I am a historian and I stand by my statement," Professor Ratan Lal said in a statement before his arrest. Everything must be seen in its proper context.
Immediately after the statement, Professor Ratan Lal was threatened with death and demanded security from the authorities.
