Russia decides to cut off gas supplies to Finland

Web Desk: Finland has applied to join NATO due to security concerns, after which Russia has decided to cut off Finland's gas supply.

Russia is blocking natural gas exports to Finland after applying for NATO membership, according to world media. Russia's state-run energy agency Gazprom has warned Finnish company Gasum of the decision. Russia is expected to begin cutting supplies around 4 a.m. Saturday.

The Kremlin said in a statement that it had made the decision because Finland had refused to pay for gas in rubles, which was demanded by the Putin government after Western sanctions were imposed.

However, analysts say that the recent closure of gas supplies to Bulgaria and Poland is linked to Finland's request to join NATO.
