Bangladesh: At least 49 people were killed, more than 300 injured in a fire at a container depot

According to Bangladeshi authorities, at least 49 people were killed and more than 300 were injured in a severe fire at a container depot in the country's coastal city of Chittagong.

Authorities say the casualties are expected to increase as many of the injured are in critical condition.

According to the US news agency AP, the fire broke out at midnight on Saturday at the BM -Inland Container Depot when a chemical -filled container exploded.

BM Inland container depot is a joint venture between Bangladesh and the Netherlands. The reason for the depot was not immediately known.

According to Brigadier General Moinuddin, Director General of Bangladesh Fire Service and Defense, there were at least five firefighters.

He added that 15 other firefighters were being treated. "After the first explosion at the depot, several blasts caused the fire."

Experts have been called from the Bangladeshi army to help the fire crew.

According to officials and media reports, the blasts broke glasses of windows of nearby buildings and the sounds of the blasts were heard for four kilometers.

The fire extinguisher is also trying to control the fire on Sunday. According to a local hospital, the number of casualties is likely to increase.

Bangladesh factories have a history of accidents in industries, including fire incidents.

The caretaker agencies have attributed the absence of corruption and the implementation of the laws as the cause of these accidents.

World brands, which recruit millions of people in Bangladesh, are criticized for not improving the condition of factories.

About 4 million workers work in the Garment Industry in Bangladesh. There have been reforms regarding large -scale security measures in this industry, but experts say such accidents could occur if such changes were not made in other sectors.

In 2012, 117 people were killed in a fire at a garment factory in Dhaka.

Then in 2013, the tragic incident of Bangladesh's history occurred when 1100 people were killed due to the demolition of the Rana Plaza garment factory.
