ABU DHABI: Scientists in the United Arab Emirates have developed atomic force microscope sensors based on 3D technology that can show objects at the micro- and nano-scale very clearly.
Dr. Muhammad Qaseema, a scientist at New York University in Abu Dhabi, and his colleagues have developed a completely new atomic force microscopy (AFM) sensor called 3D TIPS, which stands for 3D Fabrication. are formed from a single phase and are considered state-of-the-art AFMs.
Silicon plays an important role in conventional AFMs, while they have a two-dimensional design and many steps are involved in their manufacture. But testing soft tissue, such as animal or human cells, is difficult with conventional technology.
However, based on its design and manufacture, 3D TIPs can examine DNA, protein, and all types of cells and show us their levels. On the other hand, the scanning process also becomes 100 times faster. This means that high quality images can be obtained very quickly.
