Indian actor and politician Raj Bibar has been sentenced to two years in prison

 A court in India has sentenced actor and politician Raj Bibar to two years in prison in a 26-year-old case.

According to Indian channel NDTV, Raj Bibar has been sentenced to two years in prison for torturing a polling officer during an election on May 5 and has also been fined Rs 8,500.

The court ruled on Thursday that Raj Bibar had been convicted of obstructing a government official from working and interfering in the affairs of the government.


Raj Bibar was present in the court when the court pronounced its verdict.

He has taken transit bail from the court after his conviction and will also file an appeal against the decision in the sessions court.

The polling officer had lodged an FIR against him in May. When the case was filed against Raj Bibar, he was contesting the elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket. However, Raj Bibar is now a member of the Congress.

Raj Bibar had contested this election against former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Lucknow and lost.
