Temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees in several major UK cities

London: Extreme heat and heatwave warnings have been issued in the UK, during which several major cities in England are expected to experience temperatures of 30 to 40 degrees Celsius.

According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in south east England rose to 33 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while heatwave was forecast for most parts. Temperatures have reached 40 degrees in Britain's neighbors Spain and Portugal.

Earlier, on July 25, 2019, the highest temperature recorded in the UK was 38.7 degrees Celsius.

Mark McCarthy, head of the Met Office's National Climate Information Center, says the rise in extreme heat due to climate change across Europe is raising the possibility of a new record for warmer weather in the UK.
