Textile industry shut down in Karachi, thousands of unemployed

'I was finished a week ago. I live in a rented house with parents, wife and three children. Until a few days ago, the resentment that came home from work late is now over, but at the same time, jobs have ended. '

It is said that Najibullah, a resident of Korangi area of Karachi, who has been removed from a textile factory.

He said, "Now I do not understand where to bring money to run the expenses of the house. If there is no job, then with each passing day, the problem is increasing. '

The textile industry in Pakistan's coastal city of Karachi has begun to suffer severe crisis, due to the cost of production and lack of orders, the factory owners have closed their units and have removed thousands of jobs.

Production costs have increased due to the increase in electricity and gas prices, industrialists say. China, Bangladesh and other countries have cheap goods compared to Pakistan. Buyers are dealing with other markets instead of Pakistan.

According to industrialists, it has become difficult for industries to run. If the textile sector is not provided with utility at affordable rates, the coming days will be more difficult.

Najibullah used to work as a quality checker at a textile factory in the industrial area of Korangi district of Karachi. He says that for a few months the factory was not working. Initially staff was reduced from three areas.

"At that time, it was not estimated that all these units would be closed in the next few days and we also had to be unemployed."

He said he was the only sponsor of his house. There is a family of seven people and they live in a rented house near Korangi Nasir Jump along with their family.

'10 years ago, work in the textile field started and had proper income. It was difficult, but it was happening. Now the situation is different. A week ago, the factory also closed our department and relieved 121 people, including me. All people are upset because everyone was salaried like us, whose salary used to be paid in calculations before coming. '

It should be noted that in recent days, the cost of manufacture of goods has increased due to the increase in the increase in the use of electricity and other utility, including gas. Other industries, including textiles, have been quite affected by the increase of production costs. More than 30 units have been closed in five Karachi's old industrial zones.

Due to this, thousands of people have become unemployed. More than 8500 people have been relieved so far from four major units operating in Karachi, while other units are also continuing.

President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mohammad Idrees confirmed that textile units are being closed in Karachi and thousands of workers working there are also being relieved.

Mohammad Idrees told Urdu News: 'Most of the shifts of Karachi have been made in two shifts. If the United States is not working from Europe, there are difficulties. In the current situation, the buyer is also taking care of giving orders to Pakistan. The main reason for this is that they have some concerns over the delivery of goods at a fixed time. The main reasons for this are the decline in the value of the rupee and the power and gas crisis with each passing day. '

In Karachi, clothing broker Usman Zahid said the market situation was not good at this time. Four months ago, Looms' rate was 50 paise per p.

"The factory owner says last month, the gas bill was worth 1.5 million this month," he said. In such a situation, the cost of the money has increased and it has been difficult to provide goods according to the scheduled agreement. '

According to Mohammad Idrees, the gas crisis has worsened. Do not deal with gas on time now is to buy expensive prices. Everything is connected to utility. It has been difficult to work. '

He said that if the industry is provided with electricity and gas at cheap prices, then orders will be ready on time and can be exported. Six months ago, the textile industry was very fast and almost all the factories were working in two to three shifts, but now the situation is different.

Najibullah says the government should work on an emergency basis for the industries operating in the country. If this situation is not controlled immediately, unemployment will increase and it will be difficult for the common man to live.
