The Kaaba will be decorated with a new cover tomorrow

One of the most watched events in the Muslim world is the changing of the cover of the Kaaba (kiswa), which will be held tomorrow.

According to Arab News, the ceremony of changing the cover of the Kaaba will be held on Saturday, the first day of the new Islamic year (1444 AH).

The tradition of changing the cover of the Kaaba has been going on for centuries and this event is held every year.

For decades before, the cover of the Kaaba (kiswat) was changed on the morning of Nov Dhu al-Hijj when the pilgrims leave for Arafat.

At that time the harem is almost empty. Therefore, the process of changing the cover is completed with ease. After the change, the new cover remains on the Kaaba until Dhul-Hijj next year.

A technical staff of 200 people participates in the preparation of the Kaaba cover in the Shah Abdul Aziz Complex.

In this factory, the cover of the Kaaba is woven, stitched and printed with the help of human hands and machines.

The world's largest computerized machine with a length of 16 meters is used in this process.

After sewing the cloth of the Kaaba in five different parts, its lower part is connected by copper rings.

About 670 kg of silk is dyed black to prepare the cover of the Kaaba in the Shah Abdul Aziz Complex.

The cover of the Kaaba is decorated with Quranic verses woven with gold and silver threads. 120 kg of gold and 100 kg of silver are used in this process.

The weight of the Kaaba cover is 850 kg and the cost of its manufacture is 6.5 million dollars.
