The Sri Lankan Prime Minister will go to the IMF as a bankrupt country
Colombo: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that the country has gone bankrupt and now we have to go to the IMF with the same status.
According to the international news agency, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka admitted in his address to the parliament that the country has gone bankrupt and will continue to face difficulties next year. Bankrupt countries will go to the IMF.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe further said that as a bankrupt country, we have to come up with a concrete plan to repay the loans to the IMF, on which if the IMF is satisfied, an agreement can be expected by August.
The Sri Lankan prime minister added that he had been suffering from the worst economic crisis in months and would continue to face difficulties next month. We have decided to keep the national currency to a minimum.
It may be recalled that Sri Lanka, a country suffering from severe financial crisis, was asked by the IMF last week to work more on the loan agreement.
