PARIS: A good night's sleep with restriction greatly reduces the chances of stroke, a new study has revealed.
In a study conducted in France, the researchers described seven to eight hours of sleep as the best sleep, saying that during the best sleep, the sleeper barely changes the curve.
In the study, scientists monitored the nighttime habits of more than 7,000 people over the age of 50 to explore the relationship between the two.A 10-year study found that those who got the best night's sleep were 75 percent less likely to have a stroke.
Experts now say that if everyone gets a good night's sleep, most cases of stroke and even heart disease can be avoided.
Study author Dr Abubakari Nambima, from the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research, said that given our busy lives, quality sleep would be less frequent. The importance of sleep quality and quantity should be taught to us early in life when healthy habits are ingrained. Both noise at night and lack of stress at work can improve sleep.
Dozens of studies have linked insufficient sleep to heart disease and high blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
