California: We find it extremely difficult to remember the multiple passwords we use, but Apple is now taking a unique step to make it easier for us.
Apple's 'Passkeys' feature will be included in the iOS 16, macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16 updates to be introduced this fall.
According to Curt Knight, Apple's senior director of platform product marketing, this feature is going to replace passwords entirely.
What are passkeys?
Passkeys are unique secure digital keys that are never stored on a web server and are limited to the user's device. Even if hackers get into someone's device, they can't steal the passkeys or trick the user into them.
Darren Adler, a senior director at Apple, said that Face ID and Touch ID authentication process gives you the same convenience and biometrics that we can get from the iPhone. This feature will not require the user to buy a new device nor will they need to adopt any new habits.
