Drone attack on al-Tanf US base in Syria, no casualties

A drone strike has hit a compound in Syria's eastern region manned by US troops and US-backed Syrian opposition fighters, so far no casualties have been reported.

According to the AP news agency, the spokesman of the American army says that a drone attack has taken place near the al-Tanf base, where American soldiers live, but no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Al-Tanf base camp is located in the area where the borders of Syria, Jordan and Iraq meet

U.S. and coalition troops are in al-Tanf to train Syrian forces on patrols to counter Daesh group fighters in Syria.

The al-Tanf base camp is located in Syria on a road that is considered a key route for Iranian-backed forces and is used as a transit route from Tehran to Lebanon.

A military statement said coalition troops responded to multiple unmanned aerial system strikes around al-Tanf Garrison on Monday morning.

Major General John Brennan, commander of the Combined Joint Task Force, has condemned the drone attack.

Such attacks put the lives of innocent Syrian civilians at risk, the major general said, using the acronym for the Daesh group.

It should be noted that the drone strike came hours after Israeli airstrikes in western and central Syria killed three soldiers, wounded three others and damaged buildings.

The Syrian opposition's war monitoring unit and the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights say the Israeli strikes target Syrian army bases where Iran-backed fighters are present.

It should be noted that in October last year, US officials said they believed Iran was behind the drone attack in al-Tanf that month, and that these attacks involved five drones loaded with explosives.
