New passport issued in UAE from September 1

Officials in the United Arab Emirates say that new Emirati passports will be issued from September 1.

According to Arab News, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has said that "the new passports equipped with the latest technologies will have the latest security features."

ICP Chairman Ali Muhammad Al-Shamsi said in a report by state news agency WAM that the modern passports are part of efforts to use technology to strengthen personal identity and eliminate forgery or fraud.

Existing passport holders can still use their travel document until it expires, officials said.
