Former US President Donald Trump has said that the FBI has raided his home in Palm Beach, Florida.
The American newspaper New York Times has said with reference to several sources that the search of the former president's house was related to taking secret documents with him.
The former president delayed returning the contents of 15 boxes that had been requested by the National Archives for months.
"After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was neither necessary nor appropriate." They also broke my safe.
The former US president was in Trump Tower in New York at the time of the raid.
The Justice Department has declined to comment on the search of Donald Trump's home. The FBI also had no comment. FBI Director Christopher A. Wray was appointed by Donald Trump.
Trump's son Eric Trump told Fox News he informed his father about the raid.
He said that the search warrant was related to a presidential document.
Donald Trump campaigned for the US presidency in 2016 and criticized then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for using a personal email account for government messages.
A person familiar with the situation said that the search was conducted to see if there were any official records left in the former president's house.
