New Delhi: Indian Auto LPG Alliance (IAC), the nodal body for promoting Auto LPG in India, has questioned the government's policy of promoting green mobility through electric vehicles only.
According to IAC, converting the 30 crore petrol-diesel vehicles on Indian roads to electric is not a common option. There are still many hurdles to overcome in this work, while auto-LPG beats EV in terms of infrastructure development in less time. The IAC says driving electric vehicles is not a carbon-neutral policy, as 60 percent of electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels.
Electric generation process causes pollution
The IAC says that while electric vehicles may not emit carbon, the electric generation process does. In such a situation, the government should consider using auto LPG for wheel-to-wheeler emissions. Besides, the organization has demanded reduction of GST on auto LPG conversion kit from 28 percent to 18 percent. It has also demanded reduction of GST on auto LPG from 18 percent to five percent to boost demand in the sector.
