Making fun of someone on social media is a crime, punishable by 5 years imprisonment and fine

 The Saudi Public Prosecution has warned that the punishment for 'prank' on social media is 5 years in prison and a fine of 3 million riyals. This should be avoided.

According to Akaz newspaper, the Public Prosecution warned that it is against the law to make or send or store anything that harms religious values, social manners or national order, violates private life. Such things should not be stored on the Internet or in the computer. It is punishable by imprisonment and fine.

The Public Prosecution says that anyone found involved in any such activity will be punished with imprisonment up to 5 years and a fine of up to 3 million Riyals. One sentence can be sufficient.

The Public Prosecution said that 'any work or activity which may defame anyone should be avoided. A smartphone should be used only for the purposes for which it is designed.

The statement said that 'taking pictures of office workers or visitors, making videos, promoting them, harming them through mobile phones, doing any activity out of social etiquette or using technology to spread such things. is a punishable act'.

The Public Prosecution says that 'anyone who tries to harm someone's private life or advertise someone through a mobile camera will be punished with imprisonment and a fine'.

Apart from this, legal experts have said that it is a legal offense to release such a video clip on social media that is intended to make fun of someone. It should be avoided.

Bandar Al-Amoudi, a local lawyer, said that 'video clips can be acceptable only to the extent that no one is hurt. If someone is insulted or made a subject of ridicule, it is punishable for doing so. The aggrieved person can file a claim for defamation.
