Working to localize 18 more professions next year: Saudi Minister

Saudi Transport Minister Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser has said that 18 occupations are working to be localized over the next year. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is striving for more job opportunities as per Vision 2030.

According to Arab News, while addressing a local forum in the capital Riyadh, Nasser Al-Jasser said that the kingdom's transportation sector is working to increase the ratio of Saudi nationals in all its services.

The Saudi minister said that the transportation system is working to increase the localization ratio in all its services. We are close to full localization for the co-pilot profession and full localization of pilots will be achieved soon.

Speaking at the event, Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih said, "The country has a broad and comprehensive strategy that will help differentiate between localization and local content."

"Local content is one of the regulatory and legislative tools that different countries use within certain limits to achieve broader settlement strategies and policies," he said.

According to the Saudi investment minister, the kingdom can achieve localization and increase local content with the help of foreign investors.

Khaled al-Falih added that focusing and exaggerating local content could harm the country's performance in attracting foreign investment.

Speaking at the event, Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Ibrahim Al Kharif said that a unique business model is needed for the goals defined under the Saudi Vision 2030.

He said that the goals defined in Vision 2030 cannot be achieved through conventional methods.

"The concept represents a comprehensive plan that encompasses many elements from product to services, staff, training and technology," Bandar Ibrahim Al Kharif said.

The Saudi minister of industry and mineral resources added that 'local materials can help increase the economic impact of the kingdom's industries, services and natural resources.'

He further said that steps are being taken to strengthen strategic partnership with the private sector to increase its participation in local content development.
