Indian Army helicopter crashes in Arunachal Pradesh, two killed

An army helicopter crashed in the Upper Siang district of the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday.

According to Indian news channel NDTV, the bodies of two soldiers have been found at the accident site, while five people were on board the helicopter.

According to reports, an advanced light helicopter crashed near Mugung village.

According to Indian Army sources, there was no land route to the accident site, so three air teams were sent for rescue, two of which reached the spot.

The helicopter, which was carrying military personnel, was on a routine flight when it crashed at 10:43 am.

Since there are no roads leading to the village, except for a bridge, three joint teams of the Army and the Air Force along with one Mi-17 and two Dhruva helicopters are engaged in the rescue operation. Local villagers are also helping in the relief efforts.

India's Law Minister Kiran Rijiju also said in a tweet after the accident that 'very disturbing news has been received about the accident of an advanced light helicopter of the Indian Army in the Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. Pray from the bottom of your heart.

This is the second helicopter accident in Arunachal Pradesh this month. Earlier this month, a Cheetah helicopter crashed near Tawang, killing one pilot and injuring several others.

According to details, between March 2017 and December 2021, 31 people have been killed in 15 military helicopter accidents.
