Kharge won the Congress presidential election, defeating Shashi Tharoor

 Mallikarjan Kharge defeated Shashi Tharoor to become Congress President.

According to Indian media, there was a contest between Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor for the presidency of Congress in which Kharge defeated Shashi Tharoor.

Kharge secured 7,897 votes out of 9,385 for the party presidency and Shashi Tharoor got only 1,060 votes.

After Mallikarjan Kharge's victory, after 24 years in the Congress, someone other than the Gandhi family will assume the party presidency, while his rival, Shashi Tharoor, conceded defeat and congratulated Kharge.
