The situation in Ukraine is worrying for our army: Russian commander

The new commander of the Russian army in Ukraine has acknowledged that he is facing strong resistance in the southern and eastern regions that Russia recently claimed to have annexed.

According to the British news agency Reuters, this situation is another sign of concern for Russia.

In the strategically important southern region of Kherson, the Russian chief said on Tuesday that there had been an "orderly and gradual evacuation" of civilians from four towns along the Dnipro River.

"The current situation in terms of military operations can be described as troubling," Russian Air Force General Sergei Sarvekin, who now commands Russian forces, told state-run news channel 24.

"There is a difficult situation there, the enemy forces are deliberately targeting infrastructure and residential buildings," Sarvikan said, referring to Khairsan.

Over the past few weeks, Russian forces have been pushed back 20 to 30 kilometers from the Kherson region and are at risk of being encircled along the 22-kilometer Dnipro River that bisects Ukraine.

Vladimir Rogov, a member of Russia's governing council in the region of Zaporizhia, says the Ukrainian army has stepped up attacks at night, where most of the employees of the Zaporizhia power station live.

He said on the messaging app Telegram that there were 10 airstrikes near the local power station on Wednesday.

Reuters could not independently confirm this report.

Both Ukraine and Russia have denied targeting civilians, while Ukraine has accused the Russian military of committing war crimes.

Russian President Vladimir Putin attacked neighboring Ukraine on February 24 in the name of 'Special Military Operation'.

He said the move was aimed at ensuring Russia's security and protecting Russian speakers in Ukraine.

Ukraine, on the other hand, has accused Russia of taking an unprovoked step by Moscow to start a war, with the aim of taking over the Western-backed neighboring country.

According to Serboukni, "Russian troops are being continuously bombarded in Kopyansk, Lyman, Mykoliv and Kraivi."

He also appeared to admit that the Ukrainian army could advance to Kherson, which lies on the west bank of the Dnipro River.

The city was captured by Russia in the early days of the invasion and is the only city to remain fully under Russian control.

Kherson is part of four Ukrainian provinces claimed by Russia. It is the only land route to Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014.
