California: Microblogging platform Twitter is going to introduce a new 'don't @ me' feature that will give users control over who can tag them in posts and who can't.
The '@' symbol is used to tag (also known as a mention) a user in any post. This icon creates a link to the tagged person's account and notifies them of the post and subsequent replies to the post.According to a screenshot leaked by app researcher Jean Manchun Wong, the feature will give users the option of whether or not other accounts can mention them in a tweet. Using the new feature, users will be able to avoid harassment on the platform.
Users will have the option to limit the list of people who can mention them in their posts or turn off the mention feature entirely.
Twitter has a number of features that give users complete control over the conversations they engage in on the platform.
Currently, users can limit who replies to their tweet to those who are mentioned in it or who follow them, or turn off the option entirely.
