Earthquake in the Indonesian island of Java, 44 people were killed and 300 injured

 Jakarta: 44 people were killed and more than 300 injured in an earthquake in the Indonesian island of Java.

According to the US Geological Survey, the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.6 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was 10 km deep in the western region of Java. Tremors of the earthquake were felt in Jakarta.

In foreign media reports, it has been mentioned with reference to the Indonesian authorities that several buildings collapsed due to the earthquake in the Indonesian island of Java on Monday morning. Many people are buried in the rubble of the buildings. According to the reports so far, 44 people have been killed by the earthquake.

Aftershocks are also being felt in the area. Authorities have expressed fear of an increase in casualties.
