Two of the 28 fighter jets built in Italy for the Kuwait Air Force, the Eurofighter Typhoon, have been delivered to Kuwait.
According to Arab News, two Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets were handed over to Kuwait on Tuesday.
According to the Kuwaiti Air Force, the fighter jets were manufactured by Italian aerospace company Leonardo and Kuwaiti pilots have been trained.Both of these fighter jets are Typhoon Trench 3 with different capabilities. It features electronic warfare and high-capability, as well as advanced missile weapons.
Kuwaiti Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Khalid Saleh Al-Sabah, Acting Under-Secretary of Defense Sheikh Fahd Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah and Italian Ambassador to Kuwait Carlo Baldocchi attended the handover ceremony along with representatives of Leonardo Company.
Italian Defense Minister Lorenzo Maguireni said in a statement: "This is a great thing for Italy, which is showing the success of Italian products abroad. It is also an important step towards strengthening the position of Italian industry in the world.
He said the first two warplanes were delivered to Kuwait on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two countries.
Alessandro Profiomo, CEO of Leonardo Company, says the Eurofighter Typhoon, developed for the Kuwait Air Force, is the most advanced in the entire history of the European program.
"We will provide Kuwait with an impressive air defense capability," he said.
"With the help of the Italian Air Force, we have trained Kuwaiti pilots in our training centers and built state-of-the-art infrastructure for the maintenance of 28 aircraft," he added.
