A Navy officer in the United States has been fired for refusing to be vaccinated against coronavirus.
The Associated Press quoted Navy officials as saying Friday that the coronavirus vaccine must be administered and that the executive officer had refused to test it.
According to the report, Commander Lucien Kinsey was serving as Second Command on USS Winston Churchill A. Destroyer.Naval officials say he is the first officer to be fired for refusing to be vaccinated.
Navy spokesman Lt. Commander Jason Fisher declined to give a clear reason, citing some of the fired officer's personal concerns.
Jason Fisher said the reason he was fired was because his failure to comply with a law had cast doubt on Kinsey's performance and ability.
Similarly, other officials say that the main reason for this was that they refused to be vaccinated, while to ensure that they are not infected with the virus, when asked to be tested, they also refused.
An official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Kinsey had applied for an exemption on the grounds of his faith, which was rejected and Kinsey would appeal.
The Pentagon has made the vaccine mandatory for all service members, and the Navy official had until the end of November to take his shots or apply for an exemption.
Thousands of officials have called for an exemption on the grounds of faith, but none of them have been granted.
