Rocket fire from Gaza off the coast of Central Israel, no damage reported

The Israeli military says rockets fired from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip have landed in the Mediterranean near central Israel.

It was not immediately clear if the rockets were intended to target Israel, according to the Associated Press. No casualties were reported, officials said.

Militant groups based in Gaza often test missiles at sea.

Cross-border rocket fires have stopped since the end of the 11-day war between Israel and Hamas in May last year. The Israeli military said in a statement that the rocket landed on the shores of the Tel Aviv metropolitan area.

According to the statement, "no siren was sounded under the protocol and no automated system to stop the rockets was activated."

Eyewitnesses in Gaza said they woke up at around 7 a.m. to the sound of missiles, and images circulating on social media showed white smoke rising from the launch area.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli military said Israeli troops had shot dead a Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank as he tried to attack a bus stop with a knife.

A statement from the Israeli military said, "Atif Ryan got out of a car at a junction and headed towards a group of Israeli civilians and soldiers waiting at the bus stop." He was shot before reaching them.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health later confirmed that Emir Atif Ryan had died of his injuries.
