India arrests Kashmiri journalist on terrorism charges

Srinagar: India has arrested Kashmiri journalist Fahad Shah on terrorism charges.

Fahad Shah, editor of a news portal in Occupied Kashmir, was arrested on terrorism charges. In a statement, the puppet administration of Occupied Kashmir, which arrested Fahad Shah on the orders of Modi government, accused Fahad Shah of inciting people to terrorism, defining terrorism and spreading fake news through social media posts and news reports.

A statement issued on Fahad Shah's news portal said that Fahad Shah was summoned to the police station in January 2020 for publishing a report on police raids where he was arrested.

Journalists and international human rights groups have called for Fahd Shah's immediate release.

Since the special status of Occupied Kashmir was abolished by India in 2019, dozens of journalists in Occupied Kashmir have been regularly summoned by the police and questioned about their work.

In Occupied Kashmir, there has been an increase in arrests of journalists on charges of harassment and terrorism.
