Chinese passenger plane crashes in southwest

 A Chinese passenger plane with 133 people on board has crashed in southwest China, according to state television.

CCTV quoted the provincial emergency management bureau as saying on Monday that a Chinese Eastern Airlines Boeing 737 had crashed in the Guangxi area near the city of Wizhou, setting it on fire in the mountains but no casualties were reported. No details were released.

Rescue teams have been dispatched to the spot.


According to Reuters, China's Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said the plane, carrying 132 people, crashed in the mountains on Monday while flying from the southern Chinese city of Kunming to Guangzhou.

According to Flight Radar 24, the cause of the crash of the six-year-old 737-800 plane could not be ascertained.

The CAAC said the plane lost contact with Vizhou City. The plane was carrying 123 passengers and nine crew members.
