ISLAMABAD: An extraordinary session of the National Assembly has been adjourned till March 28 without taking any action on the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister.
A meeting of the National Assembly was held under the chairmanship of Speaker Asad Qaiser, which also included a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister. The agenda states that 152 members of the House are of the opinion that Prime Minister Imran Khan has lost the confidence of the House, therefore he should be removed from office.
After recitation and recitation of Fateha for the deceased, the Speaker National Assembly adjourned the sitting till 4 pm on Monday. Former President Rafiq Tarar, former Assembly member Khayal Zaman, MNA Tashfeen Safdar's father-in-law died while Fateha was offered for those killed in Peshawar attack. Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq offered prayers.
After the Fateha Khawani, the Speaker of the National Assembly briefly said that it is the tradition of the House that if a member of the Assembly dies, the meeting is adjourned without proceeding. The matter will be taken forward in accordance with the constitution and law.
No protest was staged by the opposition in the House after the adjournment of the meeting, though Asif Ali Zardari had told the media before the meeting that if the no-confidence motion was not allowed, there would be a commotion.
About 80 members of the government and 159 members of the opposition attended the meeting while Jamaat-e-Islami did not attend the meeting due to its neutrality. There were less than 2 members of the opposition in the meeting. Ali Wazir did not attend due to arrest. A PPP member is out of the country.
Today in the House, government members also chanted slogans of Imran Khan and long live democracy.
It should be noted that the ruling coalition currently has 179 members in the National Assembly while the opposition has 162 members. Earlier, the Speaker of the National Assembly had convened a meeting of the Assembly on March 25, but the agenda of the meeting was not released by the Assembly Secretariat, which was criticized by the opposition.
