Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, who ended the Cold War with the United States, has died at the age of 91.
In 1990, Mikhail Gorbachev was also awarded the Nobel Prize for his services to peace.
According to the news agency AFP, the Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow said that "Mikhail Gorbachev died at night after a long illness."

US President Joe Biden, in his condolence message on the death of Mikhail Gorbachev, described him as an 'extraordinary leader' who made the world safe.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, referring to President Putin's attack on Ukraine, said that Gorbachev's "tireless determination to keep Soviet society free and open will serve as an example to us all."
Gorbachev's domestic reforms led to the collapse of the Soviet Union, which Russia's current president, Vladimir Putin, describes as 'the greatest geopolitical catastrophe' of the 20th century.
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for Russia's presidential office, told the Interfax news agency that President Putin expressed "deep sorrow" and "will send a telegram of condolence to his family and friends."
President Putin said in 2018 that he would reverse the collapse of the Soviet Union if given the chance.
