New nuclear deal with Iran could be reached in days, EU

The European Union's representative for foreign relations and security policy, Joseph Borrell, has said that a meeting to restore the nuclear deal with Iran could be held this week.

According to Arab News, Joseph Borrell has said that Iran has given an "adequate" response to the final text of the proposed new deal and now the decision is up to the US.

After 16 months of indirect negotiations in Vienna, efforts to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreed between the West and Iran in 2015 are at a critical junction

Joseph Borrell said that last week's meeting to renew the agreement could not be held on time, so it could be held this week.

He said that Iran has given a suitable response to the proposed new agreement, while no official response has been received from the US.

"We are waiting for their response and hope that with the response of the United States, the negotiation process will be able to reach its final conclusion."

It should be noted that after former US President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018, the agreement was terminated and economic sanctions were reimposed on Iran.

In response, Iran violated the international agreement by stockpiling more uranium than is required to build nuclear weapons.
