The Saudi authorities say that this step was taken so that more people could perform Umrah. This year, one million pilgrims are expected to perform Umrah.

Officials said that this facility is for tourists from 49 countries who can get visas online, the eligible ones include US and UK visa holders as well as Schengen visa holders.

Saudi officials said that people who came on a family visit visa will be able to pay for Umrah by booking on the Itmarna app.
