Rains wreak havoc in India, killing 50 people

New Delhi: Heavy rains in India for three days have caused widespread destruction as a result of which a total of 50 people have died.

According to Indian media, heavy rains have been continuing for three days in the eastern and northern states. Water from the mountains entered the residential areas. Dams broke and rivers boiled.

The flood relay flattened everything in its path. The total death toll in other incidents, including landslides, has risen to 50 while more than a dozen are missing.

The highest number of deaths occurred in the state of Himachal where 36 people lost their lives, while Uttarakhand reported 15 and Odisha over 5.

More than 800,000 people have been affected by the floods in Odisha, of which more than 120,000 people have been shifted to safer places.

During the incompetent Modi government, citizens have been left helpless in natural calamities, while questions are being raised about the performance of the Meteorological Department, which had predicted less than normal rainfall this year.
