 Moscow: Russia has announced punitive measures against several foreign technology companies, including TikTok, Telegram, Zoom, Discord and Pinterest.

In a statement issued on Friday by Roskom Nidzur, Russia's state-run communications, information technology and mass media watchdog, the measures will be taken if companies do not remove illegal content and will remain in effect until then. Until the companies meet the demands.

Russia has repeatedly threatened to fine IT companies, including Google. According to Russia, the companies have seriously violated the new rules by spreading "misleading news" about the Russian military.

Russia has called the attack on Ukraine a 'special military operation'. In March, Roskom Nedzor warned that the website would be blocked if anyone likened the military campaign to an invasion or the imposition of war.

Last Tuesday, Russian courts fined US live streaming service Twitch and messenger service Telegram $33,000 and $179,000, respectively, for violating military censorship laws.
