'Allegation of activities against national interest', Indian Muslim organization PFI banned

Indian authorities have banned the Muslim organization Popular India Front (PFA) and other related groups as 'illegal' for five years.

According to the British news agency Reuters, the ban comes after a large-scale crackdown on the organization and the arrest of dozens of activists.

Actions against the organization were carried out in various states at the beginning of this month and on Tuesday.

Indian authorities had accused the organization of "indulging in violence and activities against the national interest."

The crackdown on the outfit began earlier this month and on September 21, a large-scale crackdown was carried out in several states and more than 100 activists were arrested on suspicion of 'involvement in terrorism'.

According to media reports, houses of PFI workers were raided in the crackdown in 10 states.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has described the arrests as the worst in its terror investigation so far.

The Indian Express, quoting sources, also said that the action was taken on reports that the organization was accused of 'inciting youth towards terrorism'.

According to officials, the decision to take action was taken after solid evidence emerged against those who are running terror camps, providing funds and asking people to join PFI.

According to the report, at least 10 locations in Bangalore and Karnataka were raided, including the residence of PFI state president Nazir Pasha.

Apart from the PFI, two members of the Social Democratic Party (SDPI) were detained in Mangalore who were protesting outside the offices against the search operation.

Before the raids, the NIA had directed the police to take all necessary steps to control the law and order situation.

On the other hand, the PFI said in a statement in response to the raids that "we strongly protest against this fascist government's campaign to suppress the voices of dissent."

It was said in the statement that raids are being conducted on the houses of national, state and local level leaders.

Keep in mind that PFI is an Islamic organization that has been accused by the government of being involved in extremism.

It emerged in 2006 as a successor to the National Development Front (NDF), which was later joined by other organizations. PFI describes itself as a social organization.
