Clashes in Azerbaijan and Armenia, France's announcement to take the matter to the Security Council

Armenia's government said 50 of its soldiers were killed in clashes on the border with Azerbaijan on Tuesday.

According to the French news agency AFP, these are the worst clashes between the two neighbors in two years.

On the other hand, Russia has expressed hope that the arch-rivals will soon reach a ceasefire agreement, while France says it will take the matter to the UN Security Council.

President Emmanuel McEwan says that "France will present the current situation to the United Nations Security Council, which currently holds its presidency."

According to the report, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Peshnyan said on Tuesday regarding the deaths that "these are the final numbers."

Similarly, Turkey has asked Armenia to stop "provocative actions" against Azerbaijan after fresh clashes.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavus wrote in his tweet after a telephone conversation with Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jehon Bayramov that "Armenia should stop provocative actions and focus on the ongoing negotiations for peace and cooperation with Azerbaijan."

Armenia has appealed to world leaders for help, saying that Azerbaijani forces were advancing into Armenian territories, which led to deadly clashes.

It should be noted that the conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Armenia and Azerbaijan is ongoing and Monday's clashes between the border forces of these two countries is a major event after the 2020 war.

"Azerbaijani forces are continuously targeting military and civilian buildings with artillery, trench mortars and drones," Armenia's foreign ministry said on Tuesday. The enemy is trying to advance in our area.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that he has called on French President McChoun, Russian President Putin and US Secretary of State Anthony Blanken to "react" to Azerbaijan's "aggressive actions".

It should be remembered that there have been two wars between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh in 1990 and 2020.

In the year 2020, around six and a half thousand people were killed in the six-week long war between the two countries.
